Yoga sutra speaks of how one experiences sukham (happiness) and dukham (sorrow) as a function of the expansiveness and constriction of one’s inner space. As we engage with life in material pursuits (career, money, relationships, etc.) the quality of life experience is also determined by the way we experience the space and time through which we pass through. Jyotisha sastra (astrology) gives a comprehensive framework of understanding one’s location in life at any moment with respect to the larger cosmos (outer space) and how this influences the way we experience different times in our lives, the challenges and opportunities it brings to us, and how we can optimise our energies to align with these changes to live a life that is filled with meaning and beauty.
In this retreat, we explore the idea of space and time in Indian thought through the lens of Jyotisha vidya and Yoga practices. This exploration will be through a combination of asana-pranayama practices, antaranga yoga (Inner Work Through Yoga) explorations through reflective art and contemplative dialogues, and an introduction to some of the themes from jyotisha sastra that relate to how we experience space and time in our life.
We will also be exploring the beautiful scenic spots of Chikmagalur through nature walks and short treks, and have fun filled sessions of tarot reading and story telling too as part of the retreat.
